We did 7-day Machame route in early October with ClimbKili – great service, 100% of us did it to the top, winners’ atmosphere and the gorgeous mountain itself – everything went perfect! The guide/company attributed a lot to our success – carrying all our stuff, setting the tents, cooking for us, singing to cheer us up, constantly checking our oxygen level and simply doing the best for us to enjoy the journey! Bringing hot coffee to the tent in the mornings is beyond expectations and baking the birthday cake at almost 5’000 is unbelievable!
The hiking itself wasn’t demanding at all, apart from the summit day. On most days we would start at 9 am and by 3-4 pm we would already be at the camp with all the tents set up. The summit day is pretty wearing, it’s probably the only day which I would call ‘climbing’, but it’s something you should expect going to ca. 5’900 m mountain.
The weather in October was changeable – from hot (wearing t-shirts) to bloody raining to sunny to windy. The coldest temperature we had was predictably at the summit night, about -7 -10C, but since you constantly move up, it doesn’t feel that cold.
