My son and I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in August 2018 via the 7-day Machame Route. Happily, after much research, we chose ClimbKili due to other excellent reviews and because they had a US based office. Since we were both climbing/camping neophytes, their US based office proved to be very helpful in the months/weeks leading up to our climb with unlimited Q&A and detailed, professionally prepared documentation. Also, during the climb, Tiffany’s daily email updates to my wife back in the US were very comforting. We were very fortunate to be paired with lead guide Herment. His experience, care, leadership, and personality were all keys to our successful climb and summit. I was particularly thankful for his attention to my son during our time on the mountain. His two assistant guides, Antone and Goodlove were always there willing and able to assist whenever needed. All the other members of the crew were also outstanding. Their ability to tear-down, transport, and setup our camps (all with smiles and enthusiasm) throughout the trek is nothing short of amazing. The daily song and dance sessions were also unique to our group. Members of other groups would gather around our camp to enjoy the singing. Of all the pictures and videos we brought back, the videos of the crew singing and dancing are among my favorites. The night of our summit, we experienced unrelenting 50-60 mph winds. We climbers were very nervous that our tents wouldn’t survive the winds and we were apprehensive about climbing through the night with such strong winds. But the crew made sure our tents were secure. And Herment gave us the confidence and assurance to reach our ultimate goal. My son turned 16 on the third day of the climb. We requested to have a cake during the dinner service that night. What I didn’t expect was the whole crew filing into our dinner tent with the cake and candles singing Happy Birthday in English. Following that, they sang and danced through several more songs in Swahili incorporating his name into the songs. A truly unforgettable experience. I would also like to thank the other four members of our group; Sydna, Sharla, Curt, and Brian. Four experienced hikers from Utah that took us under their wings. We were grateful for their help and friendship throughout the trek. My wife met us at the Summit Lodge after our descent and we tagged on a three day safari through ClimbKili. We were paired with a very experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly driver/guide named Steven Silaa. His desire to make sure we had the best experience possible by seeing as many different animals as possible, was very appreciated. The safari was the cherry on the cake of a once in a lifetime adventure. Thanks again to ClimbKili for exceeding our expectations.
