LONDOROSSI GATE to MTI MKUBWA

Altitude: 7,742’ (2,360m)
Distance: 4 mi (6.4 km)
Time: 3-4 hrs

After a restful night at the hotel, your adventure begins on the western side of Kilimanjaro, checking in at the Londorossi Gate at an altitude of 7,742’ (2,360m). The trail ascends gently through the lush montane forest, offering glimpses of wildlife and diverse flora. As you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, Swahili for “Big Tree,” you’ll be welcomed under the Climb Kili banner, with your tents already set up and your personal belongings inside, ready for a restful night nestled in the rainforest.

MTI MKUBWA to SHIRA CAMP

Info

Altitude: 11,500’ (3,505m)
Distance: 5 mi (8 km)
Time: 5-7 hrs

Leaving the rainforest behind, you enter the heath and moorland zone, where the landscape dramatically changes. As you ascend towards the Shira Ridge, the vast high-altitude desert plateau unfolds before you, with the first breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snowy peaks on the horizon. The day’s journey ends at Shira Camp, where the sunset paints the sky with vibrant colors—a perfect end to another adventurous day.

SHIRA CAMP to MOIR CAMP

Info

Altitude: 13,650’ (4,155m)
Distance: 6 mi (9.7 km)
Time:  6-8 hrs

Today, explore the expansive Shira Plateau, trekking eastward toward Kibo’s glaciated peak. You have the option to visit the ancient, collapsed Shira Cone, one of Kilimanjaro’s three volcanic peaks. The day concludes at Moir Camp, located in a sheltered valley at the end of a dormant lava flow, where you can relax and prepare for the following day’s journey.

MOIR CAMP to BARRANCO CAMP

Info

Altitude: 12,950’ (3,950m)
Distance: 7 mi (11 km)
Time: 5-7 hrs

Your day begins with a gradual ascent to Lava Tower at 15,190’ (4,630m), an excellent opportunity for acclimatization. After lunch at the tower, descend into the Barranco Valley, passing through the giant Senecio forest before reaching Barranco Camp. Here, you can marvel at the towering Barranco Wall, which looms overhead as the evening mist rolls in

KARANGA CAMP to KOSOVO CAMP

Info

Altitude: 16,000’ (4,876m)
Distance: 2.2 miles (3.5 km)
Time: 4-5 hours

We continue our steady climb to Kosovo Camp, passing by the usually crowded Barafu Camp en route. At this higher altitude, we take a slower pace, allowing for more acclimatization. Kosovo Camp, perched on a rocky ridge, provides stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Here, we rest, relax, and prepare for the summit bid tonight. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the terrain as you get ready for the exciting challenge ahead.

🗻The Kosovo Advantage

We offer an exclusive advantage with special permits to camp at the higher Kosovo Camp on summit night. This unique access allows us to start the ascent ahead of the crowd, bypassing the steep, rocky section at the beginning of the summit push. The shorter distance to the summit from Kosovo Camp makes the ascent on summit day less strenuous, leading to a more manageable climb. Our clients have consistently found that this strategic advantage significantly enhances their chances of a successful summit!

KOSOVO CAMP to SUMMIT to MWEKA CAMP

Info

Altitude: 19,341’ (5,895m)
Distance: 13 mi (21 km) total (5 km ascent / 12 km descent)
Time: 6-8 hrs ascent / 4-6 hrs descent

Tonight is the night! Starting at midnight, you’ll begin the final push to the summit. The path to Stella Point is challenging, yet rewarding, as it is one of the steepest sections on Kilimanjaro. Reaching Stella Point at sunrise is a moment to remember, with the summit just an hour away. After celebrating at Uhuru Peak, the rooftop of Africa, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved dinner and celebration of your incredible achievement.

MWEKA CAMP to MWEKA GATE

Info

Altitude: 5,400’ (1,640m)
Distance: 6 mi (9.7 km)
Time: 3-4 hrs

A gentle descent through the rainforest takes you to Mweka Gate, where your Climb Kili vehicle awaits to transfer you back to your hotel. Reflect on the week’s accomplishments and enjoy a hot shower, a comfortable bed, and the satisfaction of having conquered Africa’s highest peak. Overnight at Summit Lodge.
